Don’t think I’ve seen anyone with a head cannon for Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon’s cutie marks. I kinda came up with something out of the blue.
Lets start with Diamond Tiara.
Her cutie mark, is, well… a tiara. What does it mean, though? Well, it’s pretty clear that Diamond Tiara is in a very wealthy family. She was born into money, and shes been pretty spoiled rotten, but what does that have to do with her cutie mark? In my opinion, just about everything. I’d like to believe that her mother, unless we find out who she is in the future, has an affinity for tiaras, so it was only fitting that she’d pass down the preference to her daughter.
So with this conditioning set in as a baby, she grew up liking tiaras just as her mother did. Being part of a rich family as well granted her the chance of just buying the ones she wanted. Over the years as a child, the constant viewing of many tiaras could have given her a skill and in turn her special talent. Gemstones and metals, she eventually grew to finding the best of the best, as supported by her spoiled nature.
She eventually earned her cutie mark as a tiara which represented both her love for tiaras as well as her decision and eye for quality.
As for her name, I’d like to believe it was a very uncanny coincidence. Perhaps her name was given to her by her mother due to her favorite tiara. A tiara that had one large diamond in the center, two amethysts on the outside of that, and on the out most prongs, two rose quarts. Her favorite and most precious tiara’s gemstones had an eery resemblance to Diamond Tiara’s natural born colour scheme. To which her mother named her that, Diamond Tiara, her new most precious possession.
Moving on now, lets assess Silver Spoon.
My view on her is somewhat similar to Diamond Tiara, that being that she was born in a wealthy family. Albeit not as wealthy as Diamond Tiara’s family, or possibly as long, still a very rich family. She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth in a literal sense. I personally feel like her family owns a silver mine. Perhaps her father worked as a miner when he was younger but worked his way up to where he is now, in which he simply chooses dig site locations in order to extract silver.
Because of this as his job, it would lead to him, as the boss, able to use the ore they dug up for his own luxury, in this case pure 100% silver utensils, as well as other luxuries. Silver utensils, silver plates, silver bowls, all of their metal luxuries made of silver.
She was accustomed to this, but as she got older there was a sudden change in things. A need to replace their current utensils, the father decides to use more common ones found out in the market, although made of silver of course. However it was not pure silver, as more so a sterling silver. Alloyed with copper very slightly, yet retained a similar look. Having worked his way up through hard labor and determination, her father understands the value of saving money, even if he doesn’t need to anymore, and sticks to his morals, although not as much as he used to now.
Having grown up almost surrounded by silver, however, had an effect on Silver Spoon. The new set didn’t seem right to her. She couldn’t seem to pin it down at first, but everything just seemed off. It wasn’t until one day she questioned her father about the new set, and found out that it wasn’t pure silver like she wasn’t used to. As it turned out, she managed to get a literal taste for silver and in turn could taste very minute impurities in the silver itself, in this case the copper it was alloyed with.
With the support of her father, and his passion for silver, Silver Spoon eventually got her cutie mark in determining the purity of silver, as denoted by her observation in taste of their silverware. To her father’s pride, she is probably going to be appointed the family’s business in silver extraction, aided by her new found ability, but only when shes matured and gotten older.
As for her name, she was probably named by her father. Her mane and body rich with silvery grey, and always living by his determination of “bringing his child into this world with a silver spoon in their mouth,” giving them the luxury he couldn’t have as a child.
I’d also imagine that she’s the nicer of the two, with her father always talking to her about morals and how hard work is how you measure a pony in reliability. In the end, Silver Spoon is generally a good pony, but very influenced by Diamond Tiara.
Don’t think i could think of any other way their names and cutie marks could be the same other than just plain coincidences, or fate to those who wish to believe it.
